Airbnb Expands Into Airport Pickups With New Private Car Service

Airbnb is expanding beyond accommodation by introducing a private car pick-up service, marking a significant step towards becoming a full-service travel platform.
The new feature allows travellers to book private car transfers directly within the app, covering journeys between airports, train stations, and their accommodation. The service is being rolled out across more than 125 cities in regions including Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Developed in partnership with Welcome Pickups, the feature is designed to simplify one of the most uncertain parts of travelling — getting from the airport to a destination in an unfamiliar city. Users can pre-book their ride, view details, and make changes directly within the app, without needing to use separate transport services.
The service includes options such as meet-and-greet pickups, where drivers wait at arrival points, as well as scheduled departures from the user’s accommodation. This aims to reduce stress and improve convenience, particularly after long journeys or late arrivals.
The move forms part of a broader strategy to expand Airbnb’s role in the travel experience. In recent years, the company has introduced additional services including food delivery, personal experiences, and in-stay services, as it looks to manage more aspects of a user’s trip within a single platform.
Industry analysts suggest the addition of transport services could position Airbnb more directly against ride-hailing platforms and traditional travel providers. By integrating transport into its ecosystem, the company is aiming to reduce the need for users to switch between apps while travelling.
While the feature is not yet available in all regions, further expansion is expected throughout the year. The development highlights a growing trend in the travel industry, where platforms are moving towards offering end-to-end solutions rather than single services.
