Apple Plans Major Platform and AI Shake Up Across iPhone, iPad and Mac

Apple is preparing a significant overhaul of its software platforms and artificial intelligence strategy, according to reports, as the company looks to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive AI driven market. The changes are expected to affect iOS, iPadOS and macOS, alongside a renewed focus on Siri and on device intelligence.

At the centre of the shake up is Apple’s approach to AI integration. Rather than rushing to match rivals with highly visible generative tools, Apple is said to be prioritising deeper, system wide intelligence that operates largely on device. This strategy is designed to improve performance, reduce reliance on cloud processing and reinforce Apple’s long standing emphasis on user privacy.

Siri is expected to play a key role in this shift. Reports suggest Apple is working on multiple versions of the assistant, with more advanced capabilities arriving gradually over the next few software updates. These improvements may allow Siri to better understand context, manage complex tasks across apps and offer more natural interactions, addressing long standing criticisms of the assistant’s limitations.

Apple is also believed to be reorganising internal teams responsible for AI and platform development. This internal restructuring reflects the growing importance of artificial intelligence across Apple’s ecosystem, from productivity and accessibility features to photography, search and system automation.

The platform updates are expected to arrive alongside future versions of iOS and macOS, with developers likely to see early signs of the changes at Apple’s next Worldwide Developers Conference. While Apple has not publicly detailed its plans, the company has previously indicated that AI will be a central part of its software evolution.

As competitors move quickly to showcase new AI tools, Apple appears to be taking a more cautious but integrated approach. If successful, the platform and AI shake up could deliver a more seamless and privacy focused experience across Apple devices, reinforcing the company’s ecosystem advantage rather than relying on headline grabbing features alone.
