Google Expands Gemini Artificial Intelligence into Online Commerce

Google has announced a significant expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence platform into online commerce, marking a major step in the evolution of AI-powered shopping experiences.

The move will see Gemini integrated more deeply into Google’s search and shopping services, allowing users to discover, compare and purchase products through conversational AI interactions. According to Google, Gemini will be able to analyse product information, prices and availability in real time, offering personalised recommendations based on user preferences and previous searches.

Google says the expansion is designed to simplify the online shopping process, reducing the need to switch between multiple websites and comparison tools. By using natural language queries, consumers will be able to ask Gemini for advice, explore alternatives and complete purchases more efficiently.

The development places Google in direct competition with other technology firms that are increasingly blending artificial intelligence with digital commerce. Analysts note that AI-driven shopping assistants could significantly reshape how consumers interact with online retailers, shifting power towards platforms that control data and discovery.

For retailers, Gemini’s expansion offers both opportunities and challenges. While businesses may benefit from improved product visibility and targeted recommendations, there are concerns that smaller sellers could become more dependent on Google’s ecosystem.

Google has emphasised that transparency and user control will remain priorities as Gemini’s commerce features roll out. As artificial intelligence continues to influence consumer behaviour, the integration of Gemini into shopping marks another step towards AI becoming a central gateway for everyday digital activity.
