Europe Targets Cloud And AI Giants With Tougher Regulation

European regulators signalled that Digital Markets Act scrutiny may extend further into cloud services and AI platforms, placing fresh pressure on companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet.
The focus has moved. Earlier regulation centred on search, social media and app stores. Today, power increasingly sits in cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence platforms.
That matters because many businesses rely on these systems every day. A retailer tied to one cloud provider may face costly migration barriers. A bank building AI tools on a single platform can lose bargaining power over time.
Regulators appear to be asking a direct question: when does market leadership become customer dependency?
If Europe acts, major providers may need to improve interoperability, simplify switching and justify pricing more clearly. That could help business customers secure better terms.
Investors may see slower growth or tighter margins. Customers may see stronger competition.
